Who is EVC training for?

This fully accredited OZEV recognised qualification is for people who wish to further their knowledge and enhance their skill-set. It is aimed at individuals, contractors and businesses who wish to move into the growth area of Vehicle Charging. This course if fully accredited with certification from the awarding body and approved for OZEV grants, funding and finance.

This new qualification replaces the C&G 2919 and includes further methods of protecting against open PEN conductor faults, how to assess if an installation has an issue with diverted neutral current, integration into prosumers electrical installations and reverse feeding into the installation or back to the grid.

Entry Requirements

This course is intended for practicing electricians as part of the assessment for this qualification. Learners must hold one of the following and supply a copy before the day of the course:

  • 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
  • 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
  • 5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification
  • 2356 Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
  • 2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  • Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable
  • Equivalent historical qualifications

or

  • ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card
  • If your qualification from the list above is more than 5 years old you must show an 18th Edition Qualification to show you are up to date with the latest regulations.

In addition, we expect you to demonstrate that you are able to:
Correctly install and terminate pvc/pvc cable (twin and earth). Correctly install steel wire armoured cable (swa). Carry out an initial verification (inspection and testing) on an electrical installation, and complete the necessary paperwork.
Note: These competencies are required for the assessment, and are not taught as part of the course.

Course Content

The course is based around the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation 5th Edition which you will need for this course.
This course covers all the main skills required to install, fault find and inspect and test electric vehicle charging points including…

  • Understanding requirements relating to electric vehicle charging equipment.
  • Understand different types and features of electric vehicle charging equipment.
  • Designing an installation for electric vehicle charging equipment.
  • Understand requirements for inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover of electric vehicle charging equipment and circuits.
  • Understand the use of vehicles as electrical energy storage systems as part of prosumer’s installations.

It is expected that candidates already have an understanding of the Electrical Wiring Regulations BS7671-18 Eighteenth Edition.

Learning Materials Needed

You will need to attend this course with an up to date copy of the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation – 5th Edition & Latest BS7671 18th Edition Regs Book + the On Site Guide (these books are not included in the course cost but can be ordered at time of booking).

Assessments

Candidates will need to bring with them a copy of the 5th Edition Code of Practice for Electrical Vehicle Charging Points. (These can be purchased from us for £80.00, no VAT.)

  • Online Evolve Test
  • Assignment: Short answer test and scenario based –Externally set by C&G internally marked by the centre

The assignment is made up of a series of short answer questions and a assignment scenario based question The assignment is carried out under exam conditions and lasts 1.5 hours

  • Design an installation, including assessment of location, and methods for selecting suitable cable

  • Risks associated with installations, including PEN/CNE conductor faults, electric shock
  • Requirements for inspection, testing, commissioning and handover of EVC equipment and circuits
  • Electrical energy storage systems
Certificates

Upon successful examination, we will issue you with a City & Guilds 2921-31 Level 3 Certificate.
